The daily practice that improves your timing is the most important, but also the most boring — because it's hard to tell if it's working.

Practice Mode

Practice with feedback.
No pressure.

Set your tempo, pick your subdivision, hit play. The app listens through your microphone and shows your timing in real time. There's no score and nothing on the line, just honest feedback on what you played.

  • Set your tempo. Adjust BPM, time signature, subdivision.
  • Play. The metronome runs, the app listens, the beat strip lights up in real time.
  • Check your stats. Accuracy, timing precision, whether you rush or drag. See what your timing actually did.

PRO Cross-subdivision practice: set the metronome to triplets while you play eighth notes (2-over-3). Builds polyrhythmic independence.

Practice mode with metronome circle, live accuracy stats, and beat-by-beat feedback strip
Practice session stats showing beat distribution, timing precision, and consistency analysis
Challenge results — Personal Best, star rating, detailed stats and beat distribution
Challenge Mode

Take the challenge.
Score every beat.

40+ built-in challenges, from rudiments and grooves to world rhythms and advanced subdivisions. Every hit is scored. Build combos, beat your personal best.

  • Pick a challenge. Filter by category, difficulty, or duration.
  • Play the pattern. Each beat is scored across six accuracy tiers: Perfect, Great, Good, Okay, Weak, Missed.
  • Beat your best. Star ratings, combo bonuses and personal bests give you something concrete to chase.

PRO Create your own challenges, from scratch or by duplicating any built-in one. Change the tempo, add a ramp, edit the pattern. Make the difficulty curve yours.

Track Your Progress

Find your weak spots.
Defeat them.

Every session and challenge attempt is logged: beat distribution, timing precision, rushing and dragging trends. You can see where your timing breaks down and what to practice next.

Practice, take a challenge, check your history, repeat. That's the loop the whole app is built around.

Common questions

Does it know which drum I'm playing?
It scores your timing, not the drum: when you hit, not what you hit. So a practice pad, snare, hand percussion, claves, anything with one clear sound works great, acoustic or electronic. It's not a full-kit tool, though. It won't tell a tom from a cymbal, it doesn't follow pitch, and a loud kit ringing into itself will throw it off. If you want to know whether your time is solid, that's the whole job. It's a timing coach, not a way to notate a groove around the kit.
Isn't drumming about feel, not milliseconds?
Fair question, and feel is timing anyway. Laying back, pushing, sitting in the pocket are all timing choices. But a choice is only a choice if you can make it on purpose and repeat it. This doesn't reward playing to a grid. It shows you your own consistency and drift, so you can turn a happy accident into a feel you trust and control. It's a woodshed tool, not a judge at your gig. You have to own your time before you can bend it.
Isn't the scoring just a gimmick?
Because the practice that fixes your time, pad work, rudiments, staying steady, is the most important and the most boring. No feedback, no finish line, easy to skip. The score, the streak, and watching your consistency actually improve over weeks are there to make the reps something you'll come back to. It's not about turning drumming into a video game. It's about making the boring part worth doing.
What about latency on AirPods or Bluetooth headphones?
RhythmForge stores a separate timing calibration for each audio output you connect, so AirPods, Bluetooth speakers, wired headphones and the built-in speaker each get their own offset. AirPods specifically have a known firmware-level drift that the app auto-corrects during play. No manual adjustment needed.
What happens after the free trial?
You drop back to the free tier: the full metronome with all professional features, plus 3 challenges per day. PRO features lock unless you subscribe, but nothing you've already done disappears.
Will my session history sync across devices?
Now it does. Your history and custom challenges sync across your iPhone and iPad over your own iCloud, and they come back on their own when you set up a new phone. On by default, no account to make. Nothing goes to a server of mine. It lives in your iCloud, so I never see your data. And if you'd rather move things yourself, manual export and import still works.
Does it need an internet connection?
No. Practice and challenges work fully offline. Internet is only needed for the initial App Store purchase and occasional subscription validation.

Built in Barcelona by a drummer who got tired of metronome apps that don't actually listen. RhythmForge is independent: no investors, no ad networks, no data brokers.

On Android? It's iOS-only right now. Drop your email and I'll let you know if that changes.
